Approach
BRUT is a design office specialized in improving our everyday living environment with expertise in urban design, architecture and public space.
We combine architecture and urban design as two separate disciplines that reinforce each other and we excel in projects in which both overlap. In every construction project we look to maximize the positive impact on the city and its inhabitants. Inversely, with every large scale masterplan we aim to stimulate creative and feasible architecture projects.
We make projects for people. Optimizing quality of life and use lies at the heart of our work. Participation and co-creation are therefore an essential part of our approach. A transparent step-by-step process allows a multitude of stakeholders to follow, feed and steer the results in development. A negotiating design dialogue makes space for the needs of all parties around the table.
We attach a lot of importance to a good process with creative design research using scenarios as its driving force. This is a no-nonsense approach to come to implementable results. First we scan the possibilities of a project in a divergent way. Thereafter, we look for gradual convergence through thorough and integral evaluation of scenarios. This way we are sure to end up with ambitious, feasible, supported and made-to-measure solutions.
Every project is approached in an integral way. We are used to working in an interdisciplinary way and are actively looking for synergies between competences and requirements. Density, mixity and multi-use of space are not goals as such, but a means to turn a shared vision and ambition into reality. The common goals transcend the seperate targets.
We see every project as an opportunity to make the world a little bit more attractive. With space for community as a transition between the individual and society. With space for sustainability and circularity as conditions for qualitative development. With space that stimulates wellbeing and health. With activated open space, also with regards to climate adaptation and nature development. With space for generosity, allowing flexible and creative use.
We’re not interested in only making beautiful plans, but we also want to implement them and put our ambitions into practice.
Team
We’re a small but lively office based in the bustling neighbourhood of St. Catherine in the centre of Brussels. Our multidisciplinary team brings together a diverse set of backgrounds and experiences within architecture and urban design. We have a flexible project management style with smaller and larger teams, ensuring a both personal and efficient working relationship with clients and partners.
We strive to create a balanced and collaborative approach to our work and office culture, not just through our projects, but also in the form of daily office lunches prepared by the team, site visits, social gatherings and our annual office trip abroad.
