Masterplan and image quality plan for the development of a new neighborhood on an abandoned industrial site

Neighborhood by the canal

Willebroek, BE

The abandoned paper factory is of important historical value for the city of Willebroek. The site, with a surface of 170.000m², located across the canal from the city center, offers huge development possibilities. More than 300 new housing units, with a big variation in typologies, will be created. Offices and commercial activities are located around new neighborhood plazas.

The existing qualities of the site are integrated in the new plan. The most important historical buildings are recuperated to keep the identity of the paper factory alive. The existing vegetation forms the basis for a new landscape plan. The canal offers the possibility to develop a new waterfront.
