The project concerns a former school site which was, in its turn built on the location of a monastery dating from the late 14th century. This masterplan is aimed to transform the site into a new qualitative housing project. The site is strategically situated just within the historical city wall, between the town center and the low-density residential surroundings.
The first challenge is to strengthen the legibility of the old city wall without obstructing the relation between the center and its surroundings. A second challenge is to design a realistic medium density development that nevertheless suits the village-like setting. A last point of interest is how to handle accessibility and parking facilities without having cars dominating the image and public space of the development.
About 150 housing units and a wide range of typologies will be provided.
